Google Maps Q&A Feature Changes: When and Where It Still Appears

Overview of Google Maps Q&A Availability

Google’s local Questions & Answers (Q&A) feature is not being removed but is undergoing changes in when and where it appears. According to insights shared by Joy Hawkins and Krystal Taing, Q&A visibility now depends on the type of search and platform used.

When Q&A Shows on Google

  • On Google Search: Q&A appears only when a map pack of results is displayed and you click on a business within that pack.
  • On Google Maps: Q&A is visible for businesses in all types of searches.
  • For Direct Business Searches on Google Search: Q&A does not show when the search returns a single, direct Knowledge Panel result without a map pack.

Examples to Illustrate Changes

  • Searching “Target on Balboa in San Diego” on Google Search (direct result) does not show Q&A.
  • The same search on Google Maps does show Q&A.
  • Searching “Target San Diego” or “Department stores San Diego” on Google Search (map pack results) shows Q&A when clicking on any business in the pack.

Business Owner Access

Business owners still have full access to view, post, and respond to Q&A through their Google Business Profile (GBP) and API, regardless of these visibility changes to consumers.

Current Confusion and Community Discussion

Some users, including local SEO experts, find the reasoning behind these visibility changes unclear, especially why Q&A is hidden on direct business search results where it could be highly relevant. This topic is actively discussed in the Local Search Forum.
